What to Look For in a Plunge Bra
There are a few key things to look for when searching for a plunge bra in Australia. The first is the height of the centre gore - the piece between the cups - as this is what defines a plunge. While a regular bra sits high at this point, a plunge bra sits low, and a deep plunge bra sits even lower. Naturally, the lower the gore, the harder the cups have to work to hold their shape.
For this reason, the band is more important in a plunge style than in almost any other style of bra. Because there is less structure at the centre, the band and sides of the cups carry more of the support, so it’s important that the band sits firm and level to do its job effectively. If you’re an F cup or above, look for a plunge bra with side support panels or a structured moulded cup. These help project the bust forward and inward, preventing the low centre from gaping. Check the strap position, too; plunge cups sit wider, so straps set further out can slip if the band isn’t doing its job.
Plunge Bras in Larger Cups
If you're above an F cup, it's unlikely you’ve found an abundance of plunge bra options to choose from in the past. Thankfully, She Science has plenty of plus size plunge bras in store, specifically from brands like Elomi, Panache, and Sculptresse that all design plunge styles for fuller busts, with deeper cups and firmer bands than standard plunge bras. The Elomi Matilda and Panache Ana are two of the plus size plunge bras our customers love and that our fitters consistently recommend.
